TOPIC: Signs and Wonders through Obedience

Bible Text: John 2:1-11 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine. His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so

Whenever God wants to intervene in a situation, He gives specific instruction. While Jesus and His disciples were at this wedding, Mary asked Jesus to intervene in the situation and He gave a specific instruction. Instruction always precedes intervention. Sometimes, God’s instruction doesn’t make sense to us or seem logical. They needed wine and Jesus was asking them to get water. When Jesus was about to heal the man who had been blind from birth in John 9:7, He instructed the blind man to go wash himself in the pool of Siloam. Knowing that this man was blind and may be unable to navigate his way to the pool, Jesus still gave him that kind of instruction. Imagine if he had not obeyed Jesus? When God instructed Abraham t sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering, this instruction didn’t make sense. Why will God allow Abraham struggle for 25 years to get a son only for him to end up being sacrificed? But Abraham didn’t ask God this question, he simply obeyed. Obedience to God’s commands is the true sign of your love for God. When we obey God’s instructions, regardless of how illogical it may seem to us, God bestows Mind-blowing blessings on us that may seem illogical to others.

Jesus could have miraculously provided more wine at the wedding without instructing them to fill the jars with water but obedience is a demonstration of faith and there is a principle that requires complete obedience. There are certain instructions we must obey completely without questioning it or discussing with others. James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” Many Christians like to quote this Bible verse from the middle by simply saying “resist the devil and he will flee” while leaving out the instruction in front of it. The instruction there is to submit ourselves to God. The devil can only flee after we obey the instruction. The forces of life will respond to you when you respond to God.
