Topic: The Power of Favour
Text: Ruth 2:1-12 (NLT)
Favour is one subject-matter that has been preached again and again, amazingly the more it is preached, it seems, the less people understand it. I have since come to the conclusion that the reason most people don’t understand it is because they are not working in the reality of what favour can deliver. In fact, just enjoying as much as 5% of what favour can do, your life will be much more better than it currently is. Favour is yet to be well maximized in the body of Christ. This is why I want to open your eyes today to what favour can do.
Why is favour important?
- Favour gives divine advantage. We live in a world where we daily complete. We live in a world rife with imbalance, a world with disequilibrium. The pressure is so high, the competition is stiff. If you put out an advert today for a role that can accommodate 100 people, you may likely get thousands of applicants. So how would a choice be made in sifting the 100 people to be picked out of the thousands who applied and are all talented or qualified? This is where favour comes in. Favour gives advantage, divine advantage. Favour can transpose you from wherever you are to where you need to be. Favour can give you things bigger than your ability, your finance, your connection.
- Favour gives speed by collapsing time that is lost. Some of us started life at a disadvantage. In the text, Ruth was not even a staff in Boaz’s establishment, she was only picking things from the field left over after the harvest. Yet, she earned favour. Favour equalizes, not only can it close the gap it can give you advantage. It can help you overtake, and recoup lost time. Joel 2:25a (NLT)– The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. Time is one of the most difficult things to recoup, it is so vital because once it is lost it cannot be reclaimed save by favour. Only favour can reclaim lost time. People do all sort to cover deficit of time. They scheme, lie, steal and do all sort to cover deficit, the same thing favour can grant you. Ruth in the text started from the corner of the field but ended up as Boaz’s wife, only by favour.
