SUPERNATURAL BREAKTHROUGH THROUGH PRAYER (Part 1)

Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NKJV)

MINISTER: PST SUNDAY ADEBAMERO

1 Chronicles 4:10 (NKJV) And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, ‘Oh, that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.’ So God granted him what he requested.

Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NKJV)

SERIES CONTEXT
This message continues the series on Supernatural Breakthrough. Last week’s message (by Reverend Sam Oye) established that faith is not a movement but a lifestyle — taking bold steps based on the person and promise of God, not on visible resources. Today’s message builds on that foundation by exploring how prayer produces the same quality of supernatural breakthrough.

OPENING ILLUSTRATION: THE JABEZ PRINCIPLE
Jabez’s story is told from end to beginning. We first hear he became “more honourable than his brothers” — that was the result. What preceded it was a life defined by sorrow and pain. His very name meant pain. Yet one prayer changed everything.

• Key Insight: It is one thing to look blessed (leaves without fruit). It is another to be blessed indeed. Jabez did not settle for appearing fruitful — he pressed God for real, lasting enlargement.
• The Turning Point: He identified the pattern, refused to accept it, and prayed specifically for blessing, expanded territory, God’s presence, and protection from perpetuating pain.

WHY YOU MUST PRAY — AND PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
Just as breathing is non-negotiable for physical life, prayer is non-negotiable for spiritual survival. The Bible commands us to “pray without ceasing” — not occasionally, not only in crisis, but as a continuous lifestyle.

James 5:13 (NIV) Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

Prayer is the prescribed solution to trouble, affliction, and limitation. It is not therapy, positive thinking, or strategy alone — those have their place, but they cannot substitute for connecting with God through prayer.

WHAT TRUE PRAYER DOES: 3 KEY TRUTHS
1. Prayer Changes Situations. There is no situation that cannot be changed through prayer. Hezekiah received a terminal verdict from God’s own prophet — “You will die, not live” — yet he prayed and the same God who sent the message reversed it before the prophet left the building. If prayer could reverse a verdict from God Himself, no report you have received is beyond the reach of prayer.

Isaiah 38:1–4 (NKJV) Isaiah told Hezekiah: “Set your house in order, for you shall die.” But Hezekiah prayed — and before Isaiah left the courtyard, God reversed the verdict. Prayer turned a death sentence into 15 additional years of life.

• Also: Esther’s situation illustrates the same truth. There was an irrevocable law (the laws of Medes and Persians could not be changed). But 3 days of fasting and prayer produced a new decree that nullified the first. The unchangeable was changed. The irrevocable was revoked. Esther 8:8; 4:16 (NIV)

2. Prayer Gives God the Legal Right to Intervene. Psalm 115:16 (NKJV) says the earth has been given to the sons of men. God owns the earth by creation, but He has delegated its affairs to humanity. This means God has no legal right to interfere uninvited. Just as a landlord cannot enter a tenant’s room without invitation, God will not step in unless He is invited through prayer.

Isaiah 42:22 (NKJV) “This is a people robbed and plundered… they are for prey, and no one delivers; for plunder, and no one says, ‘Restore!'”

The tragedy here is not that God could not act — it is that no one invited Him. When James was arrested and killed, the church was silent and Herod proceeded. When Peter was arrested and the church prayed, an angel showed up and Peter walked free. Prayer is the invitation that activates divine intervention.

Ezekiel 22:30 (NKJV) “I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before me… but I found none.”

3. Prayer Connects You to God’s Limitless Power for Unlimited Possibilities. Every person — regardless of wealth, knowledge, or position — will face battles beyond their capacity. Steve Jobs had billions and genius, yet could not overcome cancer. Some enemies are higher than presidents. But there is no enemy higher than God.

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Prayer shifts the battle from you to God. Casting your cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7 NKJV) is a prayer act — it transfers the weight of impossible situations to the One for whom nothing is impossible.

TRUE PRAYER BREAKS CURSES AND AFFLICTIONS
Jabez carried a generational name that meant pain. He did not just tolerate it — he prayed it off. Hannah endured years of affliction from Peninnah, but instead of reacting in the flesh, she groaned in prayer. Her affliction of many years bowed to the power of prayer in a single season.

• Principle: If you don’t pray, you become prey (Isaiah 42:22 NKJV). Prayerlessness is not neutral — it is an open door for the enemy to continue unchallenged.
• Principle: Don’t fight flesh battles with flesh weapons. The moment Hannah stopped fighting Peninnah and started travailing before God, everything changed.
• Principle: “Give no place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27 NKJV). Don’t give Satan even an inch — a foothold becomes a stronghold. Challenge every incursion through prayer.

MEMORABLE PRINCIPLES FROM THE MESSAGE
• Faith is not a spare tyre you bring out when the main tyre is flat. It is a lifestyle — and so is prayer.
• It’s not enough to know what God has said. You need to know what God is saying now. Don’t operate on old revelation when God is speaking something new.
• Many things we call the will of God are actually products of spiritual negligence and prayerlessness.
• If nobody invites God to act, even though He desires to, He may not be able to. Prayer is the invitation.
• There is no rock higher than your God. Whatever is higher than you is not higher than Him.
• Some people are made bitter by trouble. Others are made better by trouble. This one will enlarge you.
• Don’t come before God empty-handed. Prayer is paired with giving — Cornelius’s prayers and generosity together were remembered before God (Acts 10).

YOUR ACTION STEPS THIS WEEK
• Identify the “Jabez pattern” in your own life — a recurring limitation, pain, or curse — and bring it specifically before God in prayer.
• Take your position as the one who stands in the gap for your family. Don’t wait for another prayer warrior. Rise up and say, “Not under my watch.”
• Stop addressing battles in the flesh. Whatever news, pressure, or provocation comes this week — first response is prayer.
• Attend the Second Service for Part 2: specific, practical teaching on HOW to pray and get results every time.
• Join the Prophetic Prayer Hour (PPH) tomorrow at 5:50 a.m. on YouTube/Facebook @RevSamOye.
• Attend the Thursday Communion for Deliverance Service at 5:30 p.m. — every yoke will break.
