TOPIC: Rest in a storm (Part 2)
Bible Text: Mark 4: 37-41
“A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
It is difficult but possible to have rest amid a storm. We have read from the scripture that rest is given. God is the giver of rest, yet a lot of people are out there seeking rest outside of God. The disciples tried to calm the unrest in the boat by themselves, but they couldn’t until they turned to Jesus who had been right there in their midst. Many of us are guilty of turning to God as our last resort when every other thing fails. Jesus is not in our life for decoration, He is here for our intervention.
Achievements, sex, and drugs cannot give you rest. Michael Jackson had it all. Yet the fame and money couldn’t give him rest. He died seeking rest in a drug.
You don’t need to go far to find rest. Rest is not the absence of a storm but the ability to trust God despite a storm. Your security is your rest. Don’t wait till the storm is over before you proceed.
Why not cast your fears on the God who does not sleep or slumber?
