HOW FAITH WORKS

By Rev (Dr) Sam Oye

Romans 4: 17-22 (msg)

“We callAbraham ‘father’ not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, but because God made

something out ofAbraham when he was a nobody. Isn’t that what we’ve always read in Scripture, God saying

to Abraham, ‘I set you up as father of many peoples’? Abraham was first named ‘father’ and then became a

father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise the dead to life, with a word make

something out of nothing. When everything was hopeless,Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on

the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do.And so he was made father of a

multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, ‘You’re going to have a big family,Abraham!’Abraham didn’t

focus on his own impotence and say, ‘It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.’ Nor

did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up. He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking

cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God

would make good on what he had said. That’s why it is said, ‘Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting

God to set him right.’”

Faith is the positive response to God’s word and His will with a corresponding action. You have not yet believed

until you have acted; therefore, it is not yet faith until you act on it. In order words, it is not yet faith if all you say

is “I believe” with no corresponding action because the proof of faith is corresponding action.

In the school of faith, God does not discuss the price. This is because the mind of man is trained to dwell on

negative than on positive. God only tells you what is possible. Whenever God tells you what He is about to do

and you are already seeing the prices or challenges involved, do not give up. Your mind must be focused on

the journey.

The reason our heart is unsettled is because we are too focused on the journey. The reason we worry most

times is because we have not read the script. God who wrote the script of our lives told us that it is well with us.

“He knows the thoughts He thinks towards us; they are thoughts of good and not of evil to bring us to expected

ends.” (paraphrased)

Faith is absolute confidence in the person of God. Why do we have confidence in Him? Because He is faithful

and able. We have men that are able but are prone to changing their minds, but the able God is not a wavering

God, He changes things but He Himself does not change. His nature and character is consistent.

FIVE THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT FAITH

Faith sees the invisible: Faith does not look at what is visible; it works genetically by seeing the invisible. It sees

it before men see it. The reason you have spoken and it has not come to pass is because there is no

corresponding movement towards the direction of your declaration.
