HOW FAITH WORKS
By Rev (Dr) Sam Oye
Romans 4: 17-22 (msg)
“We call Abraham ‘father’ not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, but because God made
something out of Abraham when he was a nobody. Isn’t that what we’ve always read in Scripture, God saying
to Abraham, ‘I set you up as father of many peoples’? Abraham was first named ‘father’ and then became a
father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise the dead to life, with a word make
something out of nothing. When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on
the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a
multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, ‘You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!’ Abraham didn’t
focus on his own impotence and say, ‘It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.’ Nor
did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up. He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking
cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God
would make good on what he had said. That’s why it is said, ‘Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting
God to set him right.’”
Faith is absolute confidence in the person of God because God is faithful and able.
It is not faith if there is no corresponding action. Whatever you claim to believe, if you are not acting on it, it is
not considered to be faith because real faith is belief plus action and the action must be corresponding.
Faith sees the invisible: It sees what others do not see. Faith will make you to give a name to a child that you
are yet to conceive. Faith will make you develop an architectural design for a building you do not have land for.
The message here is that you have to train yourself to see before you see it. Those who see ahead get ahead.
The society is in a dynamic state of motion; not static. Nothing is in a state of perfection or fixed. Technology is
yet to be in a state of full or total advancement. Everything that exists, you can flip it around because it is open
for improvement.
The only reason you are irrelevant is because you are not visionary; faith sees ahead. There are endless
possibilities in this life only for those who can see them.
Faith believes the incredible: What God will ask you to believe in will most times be incredible because He
always calls you to see things that do not make sense.
Faith declares the unthinkable: It teaches you to say things that just does not makes sense. If you want to see
God do amazing things in your life, be bold to say things which will not make sense to men. Christ, before He died, declared what will happen; He said “I will destroy the temple and build it back in three days…” Just as He
declared, so it happened.
Faith receives the impossible: In the kingdom, we receive before we have.
Faith possesses the unimaginable: We possess things unimaginable when we walk in faith.
HOW DOES FAITH WORKS?
Faith must be born for faith to grow: In the Kingdom of God, everything He made available for you will only be
accessible by faith. It is impossible to please God without faith. You must first have faith in Jesus who died, was
buried and rose again for you.
Faith is born and grows through the Word of God: Feed your faith and you will starve your doubt. Faith grows
by dedication to the study of the Word of God. Strong faith is the reflection of a strong dedication to the Word of
God. Whatever you do not have faith for, you do not have a revelation for God’s word for. Results in your life
are as a result of the revelation of Gods word that you have. For example, if you do not have revelation of the
word in finances, you would not have faith over your finances; hence, you will see no result. Revelation powers
faith and faith powers result. In any area of your life that you are not having results, it shows you do not have
sufficient revelation of the Word of God to steer up the faith inside of you. Faith grows where the word grows.
Whatsoever takes you out of the word will soon dry you up.
Faith names it before it becomes it: Faith calls it before you see it. Abraham was first called a father before he
became a father, Romans 4:17 (MSG) ”We call Abraham ‘father’ not because he got God’s attention by living
like a saint, but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody. Isn’t that what we’ve
always read in Scripture, God saying to Abraham, ‘I set you up as father of many peoples’? Abraham was first
named ‘father’ and then became a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise
the dead to life, with a word make something out of nothing.”
You have to name it for you to become it. Every time God wants a thing to become different from what it is, He
names and calls the thing before it becomes it. Change what you call yourself, change your career, change
your family, change your marriage. Let you ears hear the sound that it has not heard before.
Romans 4:17: “With a word make something out of nothing.”
Faith makes something out of nothing through the Word of God. Your background is not a disadvantage; it is an
opportunity.
In John 1:1-3 (NLT) ”In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created
except through him.”
The reason there is nothing in your life is because there is no word in your life.
Gen 1:31 (KJV) ”And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening
and the morning were the sixth day.”
The church is no longer a place where we have producers, but consumers. Which one are you producing
through your sayings? Those who learn to say and who are the producers of the word are always better,
stronger and their lives are full of results. The reason you are not seeing anything again is because you have
stopped seeing. The key to continuous result is consistent sayings. You create what you want to see with the
word. With the word we frame our world.
