1 Kings 5:2-5
“Solomon sent back this message to Hiram: “You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet. 4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster. 5 I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.”
If you spend most of your time fighting battles, you will not be able to accomplish much. Battles and warfare are distractions. The enemy surrounds people with battles so that they’ll be unable to accomplish great things. Your peers will go ahead of you while you’re busy fighting battles. So instead of fighting, why not enter into the season of rest?
God gave Solomon rest to the point he had no adversary i.e. enemy. There is a dimension of rest that only God can give. God’s rest is a place we can never get to through works. No matter how hard we strive, no matter how many “good” deeds we do, without His grace we will never get there.
Finding rest in the Lord means depending fully on His provision and plan even while the world swirls around us in constant chaos. You cannot be creative, productive and innovative if your mind is in a state of chaos. You need rest. When you have rest there is growth, fulfillment and satisfaction.
Those who are at their best are those who are at rest.
