Sermon Title: Wonders of Worship
By Pastor Seun Bolarinwa
Text: Luke 8:40-54
Worship is a deep sense of recognition and acknowledgement of the sovereignty of God over the affairs of men. It is always expressed by physical posture either by kneeling, bowing, lifting up of hands, dancing, shouting and standing.
Psalms 95:6 says:
“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”
Kneeling or bowing before God indicates our humility and honour before God. It simply shows our recognition that God is sovereign and can rule over any situation. Whatever God does not rule over he will overrule.
Worship is a deep sense of recognition of the supremacy of God over our situation and circumstances. Recognition is the key to reward. Know that whatever you fail to recognise will exit your life.
Luke 19:41-44 says:
And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things [which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
The Pharisees could not enjoy miracles because they refused to recognise the divinity of Jesus. Worship is, therefore, the key to-recognition; whatever you do not recognise will not reward you and will exit your life.
22 “And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 “But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 “Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 “But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 “And she said, truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.
28 “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.”
The Canaanite woman got the blessings she did not deserve because she recognised Jesus. When you recognise people, what you do not deserve will be given to you.
Note that titles do not win battles only worship wins battles. Your title/status in the society cannot bring some battles to an end; only your worship before God can. You can either leave whatever you are confronted with behind and worship your maker or you bring it with you. Once you worship Him, His presence will go with you to fix whatever it is you are challenged with.
Self medication and self management is not the solution to ending spiritual problem. Self medication can only give temporary relief. When you are in a mess, worship is the key; when your worship gets to heaven, answers are released. God is the rock that is higher than the mountains you are faced with. Whatever you put in the hands of Jesus will never remain the same. Restore worship to its rightful place. God should be your priority. You cannot worship God and not attract wealth.
When in the place of worship, forget about who you are because who you are does not matter before who God is. Demons cannot survive in the atmosphere of worship. As a worshipper, you cannot accommodate demons.
The presence of the one you worship will always go after you. The more you praise, the less you panic. The more you worship, the less you worry.
